Taiwanese must apply for a letter of entry to Tibet (Tibet Travel Permit, or TTP<\/strong>The following is a list of the most common documents that are required to be issued.) This article is based on the latest 2025-2026 Tibetan official regulations, and clearly explains who needs, how to prepare, how long it takes to complete, and common additional documents, so that you can follow the table and not step on the mine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why do Taiwanese need to collect paper (letter)?<\/mark><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Tibet Entry Permit is an administrative permit to travel to Tibet, not a visa; without this permit, you cannot legally board a plane or train to Tibet, and will be checked at hotels and along the way. Taiwan travelers must travel with a tour group (travel agency + tour guide + car) and cannot travel independently. The Tibet Entry Permit and the Taiwan Compatriot Permit\/Entry Permit complement each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who needs to do it\/what circumstances are exempted<\/mark><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- need<\/strong>: Residents of Taiwan (holders of Taiwan Compatriot Permit), foreign passport holders, and those who do not have a China ID card.
- Generally exempt<\/strong>: Hong Kong and Macao residents traveling in the Open Area as Home Visit Permit holders; if the Border Control Area is involved, the relevant permits are still required.
- To be dealt with separately<\/strong>: journalists, some religious figures, some officials, etc., who do not follow the regular tourist process<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Required information for Taiwan residents to apply for the Tibet Entry Permit.<\/mark><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- Taiwan compatriot card<\/strong>: Clear images of front and back (scanned or high quality candid shots).
- Basic personal information:<\/strong>Name, gender, date of birth, occupation, and contact information.
- Itinerary Highlights<\/strong>: Cities and transportation to and from Tibet, dates of stay, routes and major attractions.
- Depending on the itinerary<\/strong>: Proof of residence\/work\/study in China.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tips: Avoid reflections, missing corners, and blurring of images; complete and consistent data for more stable auditing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- Proof of Health:<\/strong> Taiwan travelers aged 65 (or above) (those who enter Tibet with a Taiwan Compatriot Permit) must provide a health certificate issued by a public or private hospital in Taiwan certifying that they are in good health and suitable for traveling to Tibet, with a doctor's signature and the hospital's seal on the certificate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Process and Time<\/mark><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    1. Confirm the itinerary you want to join<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Lock in departure date, number of days, budget, route (with or without Everest\/Ali\/border section)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    2. Submit documents and information<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Submit the image of the TBP card and the itinerary information to the travel agency for centralized delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    3. Waiting for audit<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    To ensure a smooth departure, a 30-45 day lead time is recommended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    4.Confirmation of the information in the authorization letter for admission to Tibet<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    When the Tibet Entry Permit comes in, your personal consultant (Travel Service Specialist) will confirm the information for you. Please be sure to check that the name and document number are the same as those on your Taiwan Compatriot Permit!
    After confirmation, we will collect the final payment and invite you to join our tour group, which includes the staff and the tour guide on the Tibet entry paper, as well as the local driver and tour guide of your tour in Tibet will send messages inside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    5. How to get a Tibet Entry Permit and Travel<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    • 20-30 days prior to departure: review period, synchronized with the locking of the driver\/hotel\/airline. (Cannot be changed at this time.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • 3-8 days before departure: The Tibet Permit will be applied for and confirmed to be correct! Join the group 3 days before the trip.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • The week you leave: Check your documents and make extra copies to keep them separate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
      \n Special Reminder\uff5cTurning the Mountain in the Year of the Horse:<\/strong>\n

      \n The Year of the Horse is a special year, and the official daily quota is approximately 2,000<\/strong>Confirmation of the trip and delivery will be made at the end of the day. If you confirm your itinerary and delivery too late.\n I don't think we'll be able to get a Tibet permit.<\/strong>If you are late for your flight\/train and hotel, please check with the Commissioner in advance and apply as soon as possible.\n <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

      Itinerary Change Rules<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      The Entry Permit will state the date, route and area; the journey should be consistent with the application. Temporary changes usually require a new application, which is time-consuming and uncertain, so it is best to finalize the pace at the planning stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Additional documents that may be required<\/mark><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      Tibet Entry Permit is not an all-purpose permit. If your trip covers border control areas (e.g. Everest Base Camp, Ali, etc.), you will usually need to apply for a separate Border Permit\/Travel Permit\/Military Area Permit;

      Fees and Expediting of Paper Collection<\/strong><\/mark><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      The cost of the Tibet Permit is usually included in the tour price, and if you do not pick it up in person, you will incur a fee! But don't worry! CITS Global's entry permits are all self-issued! And if the departure date is close, there may be additional labor costs!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
