Yunnan Tourism Pre-trip Issues

Yunnan enjoys four seasons, from March to May, when flowers bloom, and from September to November, when the weather is high and visibility is good. July and August are the rainy season, with more afternoon showers, so please bring rain gear and non-slip shoes.

The first choice for entry is "Kunming - Dali - Lijiang" 6-8 days; if there are enough days, we can add "Shangri-La" or "Xishuangbanna". We can adjust the pace according to the physical strength and age of the members.

Stone Forest, Daguanlou, Xishan Longmen, Dianchi Ridge Dam, and Guandu Ancient Town; see the red-billed gulls and the flower market in the right season.

Cangshan Erhai and Bai culture: Three Pagodas Park, Erhai Sea cycling, Shuanglong/Xizhou Ancient Town, tie-dyeing experience, and the Three Tea Ceremonies are all very popular.

Lijiang Ancient Town, Shuhe Ancient Town, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain (including cable car/Blue Moon Valley), Black Dragon Pool; you can learn about Naxi Dongba culture.

It's worth it: Pudacuo National Park, Songtsamling Monastery, highland meadows and lakes are absolutely beautiful. The altitude is about 3,200 meters above sea level, so slow down your pace, drink plenty of warm water and go to bed early on the first day.

Tropical Rainforest + Dai Culture: Manghang Park, Wild Elephant Valley, Tropical Botanical Gardens, Gouzhuang Night Market, Mangtang River Cruise; April Water Festival has the most exciting atmosphere.

Kunming/Dali/Lijiang are at an altitude of 1,900-2,400m, most people feel good; Shangri-La is more obvious above 3,000m. Please avoid running, drinking and staying up late, and contact your tour guide if you feel unwell.

Kunming is connected to Dali and Lijiang by high speed train, which saves time and comfort, while Shangri-La and Xishuangbanna are connected by flights or highway. We will arrange for pick-up and transfer.

Hot spots (Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, Pudacuo, Stone Forest) are recommended to book in advance and enter the park at different times during peak seasons; we can book and plan the routes on behalf of you.

Yunnan has a variety of flavors: mushrooms, rice noodles, chicken in hot pot, roasted breast fan, etc. If you are light, please ask the restaurant to use less oil and salt. Respect local customs: dress modestly when entering temples, do not take unauthorized photos of others, show courtesy by drinking a toast, and do not touch offerings; ask your tour guide if you have any questions.

Erhai Sea Ring Highway, Jade Dragon Snow Mountain Blue Moon Valley, Shangri-La Meadows, Haba Snow Mountain Vision, Dongchuan Red Land, Yuanyang Terraced Rice Fields, Fuxian Lake, and so on.

In July and August, there are a lot of rain showers in the afternoon and the roads in the mountainous areas are slippery. We will reserve a scenic spot and a route for the rain; please wear non-slip shoes and bring a lightweight raincoat.

Some scenic areas and protected areas are no-fly, city areas need to comply with local regulations; please inform us before departure, we will check the local regulations and help to apply/avoid no-fly areas.

It is not recommended to drink directly. Please drink bottled water or boil it; we will have mineral water on the bus.

WeChat/Alipay is supported in most cities; foreign travelers can bind an international card for use. Please bring a small amount of cash to small towns and markets just in case.

Wi-Fi is available in most hotels/restaurants; it is recommended to prepare an eSIM or overseas Internet card that can be used for LINE/WhatsApp/Google, as it is normal for the signal to be weak in mountainous areas.

Kunming/Dali/Lijiang has a wide selection of brand name and design inns, while Shangri-La and other small spots are mainly boutique inns. We select by reputation and novelty, and if the room is full, we will replace it with one of the same class or an upgraded one and inform you beforehand.

Summer vacation and consecutive holidays are more crowded; we arrange reservation system/staggered peak hours, zoned slow travel and flexible hours to reduce the queuing time.
