Four Tibetan Glacier Attractions
Karjola Glacier (Switzerland)
Located on the border between Shannan and Shigatse, at an altitude of about 5,600 meters, it is one of the most accessible glaciers in Tibet. Huge bodies of ice pour down from the heights of the snow-capped mountains, forming spectacular icefalls. Although it is a high altitude area, you don't need to trek a long distance to see the glacier in its entirety. It is a very suitable choice for first time travelers who have limited time to travel to Tibet.
This is also the filming location of the movie "Red River Valley". The surrounding scenery is open, with streamers, ice walls and sunlight forming a visually tense composition. It is recommended to go there in the morning when the light is slanting to highlight the texture and layers of the glacier.
Migdui glacier
Located in Bomi County, Linzhi, it is one of the few low altitude glaciers in China, with an average altitude of only about 2,400 meters, making it an excellent choice for those who are worried about altitude sickness and the elderly. Below the glacier, there are not only forests and lakes, but also traditional Tibetan villages and farmlands, creating a multi-layered landscape of ice and green, quiet and movement.
Every spring, the peach blossoms bloom in Linzhi, and the sea of pink flowers intertwined with the snowy white glaciers, forming a highly tense highland landscape. There is no extreme climate here, and it is not prone to altitude sickness, which makes it a very suitable choice for photography beginners and nature travelers.
Horseback riding is also available in the scenic area, but the price is not certain, so it is advisable to bargain more.
